Development Promotion Group (DPG) is a non-government development organisation that was founded in 196 by Mr.R.Bhakther Solomon, a veteran of the Development field with many years of experience to his credit. DPG's activities are spread out between the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh with a small presence in Kerala. The projects cover a broad spectrum of urban and  rural development issues and range from housing, education, community organisation, women's empowerment, sanitation, watershed development, micro finance, livelihood enhancement etc.. Since year 2000, DPG has expended its role to offer micro-credit services to the poor as well.

DPGs primary strategy has been to mobilize the community into micro level institutions such that the community participates in every aspect of the project management and execution thus ensuring sustainability of its programmes. Its work with communities, other NGOs and Government organizations is based on the tenets of participatory development practices. It has a well-developed network with other NGOs, INGOs and multilateral and bilateral development organisations. It has strong linkages with several government departments and credit institutions. DPG is also among the few NGOs to be accredited as an “NGO with consultative status with the economic and social council of the United Nations (UNESCAP)”. DPG is also well known for its secular credentials and works towards empowering the socially and economically marginalized and underprivileged communities and amongst them with women in particular. It has on its board several distinguished members of society, several of whom are associated with the development sector

Legal Status of the organization

• Registered on 1.1.1986 as a “Not for Pofit” Society under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 27 of 1975 bearing No 31. Of 1986.
• Granted FCRA from the Home Ministry bearing No 075900401 dt 5.5.1988.
• Registered with Income Tax Department for 12 A and 80 G.

Strategy

DPG’s strategy is based on the principle of the integrated socio-economic development of the community and comprises of forming community based organizations (CBOs)and SHGs and capacitating them to take up activities that would result in the empowerment of marginalized communities in the target villages.
